Privacy notice: what this site records about visitors, and what not

This site is built to collect as little as possible. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, loads no third-party scripts and serves its fonts from its own server. The only records are the standard access logs every web server keeps, plus any email you choose to send to the editorial address. This notice explains both.

What the site does not collect

The pages are plain, static documents. They do not ask for an account, a name or an email address, and there are no forms that submit personal data. Nothing on the site places a cookie in your browser, whether for preferences, advertising or measurement.

There is no analytics software of any kind. No page-view counter, heat map, session recorder or advertising tag runs on the site, and no social media buttons or embedded videos report your visit to another company. Because no third-party scripts are loaded, no outside service learns which pages you read here.

The reason is simple. A reference about discontinued electronics kits has no need to know who its readers are, how long they stay or where they came from. Collecting that kind of data would add risk for visitors and bring nothing useful to the pages, so the site leaves it out entirely.

Fonts are served from the same server as the pages rather than from an external font service, so loading the text does not send your address to anyone else. Images and style sheets are served from the same server as well.

Server access logs

Like almost every web server, the server that hosts this site writes a line to an access log for each request it receives. A typical entry contains:

  • the IP address the request came from;
  • the date and time of the request;
  • the page or file that was requested, and whether it was delivered;
  • the user agent string your browser sends, which names the browser and operating system.

These logs exist for security and for keeping the site running: spotting attacks, blocking abusive traffic and finding broken links. They are not used to build profiles of visitors, not combined with other data, and not sold or shared for marketing. They are retained for a limited time and then deleted in the normal course of log rotation.

Email sent to the editorial address

If you write to [email protected], the message and the address it came from are the only personal data involved. The message has one purpose: checking the correction or suggestion it contains against the available sources. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for marketing and not passed to third parties.

Messages are not answered individually, as the contact page explains, so there is no ongoing correspondence to store.

Changes to this notice

If the way the site handles data ever changes, for example if a new feature needs a cookie, this page will be updated before the change takes effect, and the description above will say exactly what is new. For how the site's text and illustrations are made, see the AI notice and the about page.

Questions and answers

Does this site use cookies?

No. No page on the site sets a cookie, whether for preferences, advertising or statistics. There are no forms, accounts or logins that would need one. If a future feature ever required a cookie, this privacy notice would be updated first, with an explanation of what the cookie does and why it is needed.

Is my visit tracked by analytics or advertising tools?

No. The site runs no analytics software, advertising tags, social media buttons or embedded third-party content, and its fonts are served from its own server. The only record of a visit is the standard access log line the web server writes for security and maintenance, which is retained for a limited time.

What happens to an email sent to the editorial address?

It is used only for the correction or suggestion it contains. It is not added to any list, used for marketing or shared with third parties.
